Endogenous Fat: Overview

Once dietary fat is digested and absorbed, it joins the endogenous fat reserves in the body. The key organ for storing fat is adipose tissue. The liver is also an essential organ for regulating the amount of fat in circulation.

The liver is at the nexus of nutrient pathways. It converts fat to sugar and back, absorbs and releases fat and cholesterol, and synthesizes many molecules, including glycogen and various proteins.
