Sources of Energy: Glucose

Glucose is a simple sugar. Because our brain uses glucose as its primary energy source, a continuous supply of it is necessary. Glucose is also the immediate energy source for all other tissues.

Glucose is obtained by direct ingestion and by digesting complex sugars, such as lactose, or other carbohydrates, such as starch. It is also made by breaking down glycogen or by converting glycerol from fat.

Glucose is easily transported in blood but is not well suited for storage in our body.
