Converting Fat to Sugar

Between meals, glucose is obtained from glycogen and other precursor molecules. Triglycerides are broken down to glycerol (converted to glucose) and fatty acids (metabolized for energy).

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate acts on glucose-6-phosphate, which acts on glucose or sugar. Glycogen acts on glucose-6-phosphate. Glycerol acts on glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. Triglyceride or fat acts on glycerol and fatty acid. Fatty acid acts on acetyl-coenzyme A, which acts on the citric acid cycle.
