What Researchers Found

Dr. Pringle, Dr. Kartzinel, and colleagues have used DNA metabarcoding to investigate the diet of many of the large herbivores living in Mpala. They found that even among herbivores that mainly eat grasses, each herbivore species consumes some plant species that are not eaten by the others.

This suggests that dietary niche partitioning is a mechanism behind the diversity of large herbivores at Mpala.
