How Do Herbivores’ Niches Differ?

The four herbivore species you will study are all large mammals and eat plants from Mpala’s mix of savanna and woodland habitats. Although they should compete for food, our hypothesis is that their ecological niches differ. But how?

In Module 1, you will explore three different mechanisms for how these herbivores may partition niches by observing where, when, and what they eat.

Four large mammals are standing in a grassland: a dik-dik, Cape buffalo, impala, and Grevy's zebra.
