Virochip Design: Part 13

In practice, the Virochip is designed so that spots containing sequences from a given virus or family are dispersed across the chip to control for uneven hybridization reactions across the entire chip.

Genome maps of Virus A and Virus B from Family alpha with conserved regions alpha 1 and alpha 2 and variable regions A-1, A-2, B-1, and B-2 marked.
A 6-spot Virochip with two stacked blue spots on the left marked alpha 1 and alpha 2 and four light blue spots marked A-1, A-2, B-1, and B-2.
Instead of this spot arrangement…
A 6-spot Virochip with two blue spots on opposite corners marked alpha 1 and alpha 2 and four light blue spots marked A-1, A-2, B-1, and B-2.
…actual dispersed spot arrangement is like this.
