Virochip Design: Part 10

The result illustrates the cleverness of the Virochip design. The α1 and α2 spots identify the virus family. But the result from the variable sequences indicates that it must be a new member of the family since the pattern doesn’t match existing known members.

Genome maps of Virus A and Virus B from Family alpha with conserved regions alpha 1 and alpha 2 and variable regions A-1, A-2, B-1, and B-2 marked.
An open tube marked Sample 3 with an arrow that points to a 6-spot Virochip with bright green spots marked alpha 1 and alpha 2, and khaki spots labeled A-1, A-2, B-1, and B-2.
