Experimental Heart Repair

Stem cells are being used in human clinical trials to repair heart muscle damaged by a heart attack. These stem cells come from bone marrow and circulating blood.

Some data suggest that the stem cells may help make modest repairs, but whether bone-marrow-based therapy can repair the heart to any significant extent is still a question. This is an area of intense research.
