Some therapies that are still experimental in humans are already being used to treat animals.

For example, stem cells are used to promote the healing of tendon and ligament damage in race horses. Mesenchymal stem cells are used for this therapy. They come from a variety of sources, including the bone marrow, the umbilical cord, and fat tissue.
