Leech Dissection: Step 2

The anesthetized leech is pinned through the dorsal-side up on a dissection tray. The pins are placed through the leech's anterior and posterior suckers to stretch its body out.

A leech is lying in a dissecting dish filled with red wax. The leech's dorsal side has a colorful pattern of green skin with distinctive orange lines.
The leech in the dissecting dish has been stretched out to about three times its original length. There are pins stuck through the leech’s anterior and posterior suckers. The pins go through the leech's body and into the red wax at the bottom of the dish.
