How to Analyze DNA Microarray Data

Molecular biology has focused on the understanding of single genes in great detail. However, many biological processes, including diseases, are affected by the activity of many genes.

Tumor cells, for example, may have a different gene expression profile compared with normal cells. Recently developed microarray technology, coupled with genomic information, makes it possible to study many thousands of genes at once.

In this tutorial, we present the fundamentals of a microarray experiment and the basic principles in analyzing its data.
