Experiment Three Conclusion:

Bioluminescence Pattern Under Co-culture

The observed result is culture plate option 2. Signal molecules secreted by strain A diffuse across the plate to activate receptors of strain B and stimulate bioluminescence.

A divided dish with the sides marked A and B. The cells on side A are not bioluminescent; side B is.
Culture plate option 2
Signaling molecules from Strain A's Signal genes binds to Strain B's Receptor, turning on Strain B's Light genes.
In Strain A, Light genes and Signal genes are highlighted, Receptor is dimmed. Signaling molecules move from Signal genes through the cell surface. In Strain B, Receptor and Light genes are highlighted, Signal genes is dimmed. The signaling molecules move to Strain B where one is bound to highlighted Receptor with an arrow pointing to Light genes which is turned on.
