Mutants Used in the Experiment

Below are two mutant strains developed in Dr. Bassler’s lab. Strain A lacks receptors and therefore can send but not receive the signal. Strain B can’t produce the signal, but can receive it.

Strain A: Light genes and Signal genes are highlighted, Receptor is dimmed. Signaling molecules move from Signal genes through the cell surface.
