Aplysia neurons in culture

Aplysia neurons can be grown in a culture dish and made to form a synapse. In this case, a sensory neuron makes a synaptic connection to the motor neuron.

An electrode can be placed in the sensory cell, both to monitor its activity and to stimulate the cell by injecting electrical current into it.
