Eliminating East or South

The gel shows the alleles for four different markers in the ivory sample (lane 1), and in a population from the east (lane 2) and one from the south (lane 3) of Africa. Click on each marker individually to see which alleles are present in the ivory samples and in each population. You can compare the alleles of the ivory sample to those in the two populations.

Based on these results which population would you eliminate as a possible source of the ivory?

  • Marker LAFMS04
  • Marker FH60
  • Marker FH102
  • Marker FH129

?

Try again. You can exclude the population that does not have the alleles present in the ivory sample.

Correct. The population from the south of Africa does not have some of the alleles that are in the ivory sample.
