The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has two mobile laboratories that visit middle and high schools throughout the state. Destiny and Discovery are sister 40-foot, 33,000-pound buses, each fully equipped as traveling science laboratories that can accommodate 24 students. The pair is part of the university's Delivering Edge-cutting Science Technology and Internet across North Carolina for Years to come (DESTINY) program that was started in 2000. DESTINY offers 17 different science teaching modules, each aligned with the N.C. Standard Course of Study. The program also has a 20-foot diameter portable planetarium with a full dome and digital video system.
