Culex Genus Mosquitoes Are the Main WNV Vector

There are hundreds of species of mosquitoes in the U.S., most of which are not infected with West Nile virus. Among those that are, the ones belonging to the genus Culex are considered to be the most important vectors.

Most of the country is blue except for the northeast corridor, mid-atlantic, and Michigan. The northern part of the country is covered with dots and the south is covered with stripes, with an area of overlap in between.
